Course Objectives The objective of this course is to teach the institutions, principles and concepts of the Roman Law which is the foundation of Turkish and Continental European Law and to develop the legal understanding and the ability of legal interpretation of the student.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • define the institution of the Roman Law and their contemporary equivalent,
  • analyze the different constitutional periods of Rome and the sources of the law at these periods,
  • make legal assessment of the capacity of rights and capacity to act according the status of the people,
  • explain the main principles of Roman law of property and the main legal institutions such as the ownership, the possession and the servitudes,
  • explain the type of contracts, the liabilities arising from the contracts and the concept of tort in Roman Law and relate with the regulations of similar institutions of modern Law
Course Description The main focus and aim of this course is to examine the importance the historical developments of Roman Law, the basic concepts of Roman Law, the concepts of “person, capacity, ownership, possession, servitudes, contracts, the conditions of valid contracts and tort.
