Our mission is to train lawyers who can internalize the essential and current legal knowledge; who are equipped with “transaction engineering” ability just like their colleagues in developed countries; who know the course and practices of business life; who strongly believe in human rights theory and will guide the society.
The education period at Faculty of Law consists of four academic years, in other words, eight semesters. Students, who are not proficient in English, will be able to improve their language skills with the English education offered in prep classes. So they will be able to get the maximum benefit from Academic Skills Courses in English.
The students will be able to get information on both about the law education and the other opportunities the University offers at the “Academic and Social Orientation” they will receive when they first start their education.
The Faculty of Law makes a point of providing an education system that enables students to question the knowledge offered to them with a critical approach; directs them to sophisticated research, observing the implementation of national and international trade relations, and interpreting the substantial legal problems that may arise about this subject with the help of exemplary court decisions; and enables the graduates to have good command of international legal terminology and texts. Training lawyers/attorneys equipped with the qualifications required by business life who can offer services in the context of protective law is targeted. In order to realize this purpose, curriculum, where audio-visual materials are actively engaged will be used as an instruction method.
The Faculty of Law, especially, aims to provide a law education that places emphasis on “foreign language”. Therefore, “Academic Skills Courses in English” is included in the curriculum regarding foreign language and research methods all throughout the law education. In addition to this, students will be able to learn a second foreign language (German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Greek, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, and Arabic) as an elective course during an eight-semester period.
Izmir University of Economics have ERASMUS Program agreement with 92 universities abroad, and academic collaboration with 27 universities. So, our students can continue with some part of their education abroad as part of ERASMUS Program.
The Faculty of Law aims to provide an education based on application as well as equipping the students with theoretical information. Therefore, the students will have “internships” where they can learn to practice.
Again, for this purpose, “Court Applications” course has been added to the curriculum for the last year of the education where fictional cases will be analysed with select legists competent at legal disputes. Thus, allowing students to get familiar with the application process.
Izmir University of Economics, as being the first Turkish foundation university to receive the ECTS Label, has been giving “Diploma Supplement Label” (DS) along with their diplomas to all the students graduating since 2004-2005. IUE Faculty of Law, as being part of this Program, is congruent with the Bologna Process, thus enabling our students to graduate from a Faculty of Law that holds an international law accreditation.
