Welcome
Education
Founded in 2011, the Faculty of Law at İzmir University of Economics aims to cultivate lawyers who make a difference both nationally and internationally, supported by a team of expert and experienced academic staff. The faculty is dedicated to generating knowledge and sharing it with the academic and professional community. Legal education at the Faculty of Law spans four academic years, with courses structured on a semester basis. Emphasis is placed on providing a legal education with a strong focus on foreign languages. Students whose English proficiency is insufficient must complete an English preparatory program, ensuring they can benefit maximally from the mandatory or elective law courses in English during their studies.
The Faculty adopts an educational system designed to encourage students to critically analyze information, conduct multidimensional research, observe national and international commercial relations, interpret practical legal issues in light of precedent-setting court decisions, and familiarize themselves with foreign legal terminology and texts. The goal is to produce lawyers equipped with the qualities required in professional life. This is achieved through a teaching method that incorporates not only lectures but also active use of visual and auditory materials.

Curriculum
Our updated curriculum prepares students for legal profession entrance exams, equipping them with both theoretical and practical skills to address and resolve issues and developments in the legal field. Graduates will emerge as contemporary lawyers who uphold the rule of law and respect human rights. The new curriculum aligns with the Bologna Process.
Foreign Language and International Opportunities
Our priority is not only to provide a legal education but also to ensure students achieve proficiency in a foreign language in the legal field. It is essential for students to follow international developments in this domain. To this end, our curriculum includes 30% English content, offering courses in English that teach international legal terminology alongside Turkish law.
As Turkey's first private university to earn the ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) label, İzmir University of Economics provides graduates with a Diploma Supplement Label (DS) alongside their diplomas.
Students aiming to enhance their academic skills and professional qualifications can gain international experience through the Erasmus Program, which allows them to study at a foreign university.
The Faculty is a member of the European Law Faculties Association (ELFA) and the European Law Institute (ELI).
Double Major and Minor Programs
Students, excluding those in the Faculty of Medicine, can pursue double major and minor programs, enabling them to begin their careers with a comprehensive educational background.
Art of Oratory Course
Effective communication and listening skills are essential in managing relationships in the complex and often contentious field of law. The Art of Oratory course aims to equip students with dialogue and negotiation skills.
Mandatory Internship
Internships during legal education are crucial for students to gain practical insights and decide on their future career paths. At our Faculty, students must complete a mandatory 20-day internship to graduate.
Internships can be completed at law offices, legal departments of private or public institutions, or courthouses. The university supports students in finding suitable internship placements. As the university established by the İzmir Chamber of Commerce Education and Health Foundation, which has over 80,000 members, we provide students with ideal internship opportunities. Additionally, students have the opportunity to intern at the Council of State under a protocol agreement.
