In this course, the concept of constitution, types of constitutions, constitutionalism movements, the making and changing of constitutions, the concept and types of state, government systems, the concept and types of democracy, election systems and constitutional jurisdiction will be examined.
The content of this course consists of basic legal concepts and principles in general and legal concepts and principles to each specific branch of law.
The course will help students recognize the skills needed for university life and their career goals. These skills include self-awareness, goal setting, time management, effective communication, mindfulness and analytical thinking. The course will also raise students’ awareness on problems such as addiction and bullying.
Main content of the course is basic principles of civil law and law of persons. The notion of 'person' and 'personality' in terms of comparative law, natural persons and legal persons (associations and foundations), capacity to have rights, capacity to act in law and act of injustice, assaults in personal rights, protection of personality and protection of private life and human's dignity, name, kinship and habitation, register of births, deaths and marriages are examined.
This course aims at preparing students to use academic skills in English.
This course provides a general information of the events from the end of the 19. century until the end of the Turkish War of Independence and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923.
Students will be taught how to use the written communication tools accurately and efficiently in this course. Various types of written statements will be examined through a critical point of view by doing exercises on understanding, telling, reading, and writing. Punctuation and spelling rules, which are basis of written statement, will be taught and accurate usage of these rules for efficient and strong expression will be provided.
This course provides an introduction to basic models and concepts in microeconomics and macroeconomics. Basic topics in microeconomics analyzed in this course include an introduction to market economies, supply and demand, consumer theory, the theory of the firm, perfect competition. Basic topics in macroeconomics analyzed in this course include national income, employment / unemployment, inflation, money, banking and credit system.
ENG 102 is a compulsory course for first year students. ENG 102 focuses on the cognitive skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Students' academic listening skills will be improved by listening to important / relevant information from lectures or discussions and reading skills by reading recent academic texts and then using this information to create an output task. Speaking focuses on giving presentations and students get prepared to express their ideas and opinions by speaking persuasively and coherently. The writing component is a consolidation of the speaking activities.
Students will be taught how to use the written communication tools accurately and efficiently in this course. There will be exercises on understanding, telling, reading, and writing; types of speeches (panel, symposium, conference, etc.) will be introduced; the student will be equipped with information on using body language, accent and intonation, and presentation techniques.
In this course, the following subjects will be examined: notion of constitution, types of constitutions, movements of constitutionalism, making and amending constitutions, concept and types of state, government systems, concept and types of democracy, electoral systems and constitutional adjudication.
The course explores main subjects; the meanings of concepts of politics, power, legitimacy and authority; the emergence of modern state; nationalism; modern political ideologies; different government styles such as democracy and authoritarianism; political culture; organization ad mechanisms of legislative and executive branches; political parties and interest groups.
With special reference to the Principals of Atatürk the course will examine the philosophy of the foundation and existence of the republican regime as well as the democratic developments in secular Turkey during the twentieth century and in the era of extending globalization.
The Law and the Legal System of England and Wales, Legal Profession, the Law of Torts, the Law of Contracts and Criminal Law.
The course aims to explain the constituent elements of the international legal order, taking into account the mutual influence relations between international legal persons, with current developments. The aim of approaching international law as a compulsory and complementary tool in the search for an accurate and comprehensive view of the complex events in international relations has been the determining factor in the adoption of the course plan and methodology. Therefore, although the general area of public international law constitutes the main content of the course, due to its complementary and complementary features, the main areas of public international law, each of which is a major area, are included in the course content of public international law. The sections of the course dealing with procedural law will be covered in the relevant chapters within the selected majors (existing dispute redress mechanisms - such as international judicial bodies and the conditions of recourse). Similarly, international organizations will be evaluated in the light of current developments by adhering to the reasons for their establishment (such as the United Nations - rules on disputes - rules on armed intervention).
Administrative actions, administrative contracts, public service, administrative police, liability of administration, civil servants, public domain will be handled in the scope of this course.
The course will introduce students to the legal, philosophical, and historical foundations of human rights, as well as the major international human rights legal instruments and institutions, civil and political rights, and economic, social, and cultural rights. The course also discusses human rights in practice, the UN human rights treaty system, and regional human rights treaty systems. Some special topics, such as child rights, women's rights, and the recognition and protection of the human rights of vulnerable groups and persons, are detailed in the course. In summary, the course is designed to encourage students to investigate and develop issues concerning all aspects of human rights law.
In the scope of this course, subjeckts such as, culpability in criminal law, attempted crimes, recklessness, jointly committed offences, principle involvement and accompliceship which are special appearences of crime, will be discussed. Aggregation of offences, compound offences and succussive offences, wich will be applied because of aggregation of offences, will be emphasized. Punishments and security precautions, imprisonment and criminal fine, determination of punishment, personalisation of punishment and calculation of punishment, which are under the title of sanction theory, are the important subjects for this course.
This course discusses the political, economic and social factors behind the making of legal provisions and structures and how these provisions are applied meaningfully only under an institutionalized political power.
In this course, concepts such as right, law, justice and equality are examined in the context of natural law, legal positivism and legal realism theories, and problems such as the sociological origin, effectiveness, function and historical evolution of law are discussed.
Couse content includes specific contracts and their legal aspects. Some of these contracts are contract of sale, contract of donation, contract of mandate, contract of work, rental contract, guarantee contract, employment contract and publishing contract.
The court structure in Turkey, status of judges, initiation of proceedings, summary and ordinary procedures, jurisdiction, petition of the case and reply, burden of proof, means of proof, effect of judgements and enforcement procedures.
Course content includes notions of property and real rights, general principles prevailing real rights, notions of possession and land registry, land registry organization, responsibility of the state, ownership, subject matter and scope of ownership, acquisition and limitation of ownership, and limited real rights.
The basic principles, features and rules of procedure of administrative jurisdiction, types of administrative cases, and appeal process.
Partnership and historical development of partnership; partnership in the Turkish legal system and their types; factors in a partnership relation; ordinary partnerships; general partnerships, limited partnerships; joint stock companies; limited liability companies.
Criminal law- specific provisions is examining fundemental specified crimes taking part in Turkish Criminal Code and legal assesment of them
Course content includes scope of ownership, acquisition, limitation, loss of ownership of immovable and limited real rights, pledge rights and condominium.
The course includes burden of proof, means of proof, effect of judgements and enforcement procedures, interim and conservatory measures, mediation, arbitration.
Labor Law is a course taught in two different semesters, and includes individual labor law, and some parts of collective labor law and union law in its context. The subject of the first part of this course will be individual labor law and it will cover the historical development of labor law, its sources, fields and persons of practice, basic concepts, employment contract, debt of the parties included in the contract, termination of employment contract and its consequences, and labor jurisdiction.
The course begins with the basic principles of criminal procedural law. This basic principles consists of the protection of human rights, prohibiton of analogy, preparation and form of prosecution and principles of proof. Application area of criminal procedural rules, restraints to cognisance, proceedings of criminal procedural law, subjects of cognisance, cognisance participation, safety measures, compensation for safety measures, investigation, prosecution, conciliation and seizure, ordinary and extraordinary legal remedies and expenses of prosecution will be the subjects of this course.
Following topics will be covered during this course: Sources of enforcement law, bankruptcy institutions, enforcement fees, parties of debt enforcement process, debt enforcement without verdict, levy, initiation of enforcement, preliminary documents and fees, parties, objection to enforcement, nullification of objection.
This course covers detailed examination of the EU law and legal process, mainly the founding treaties of the EU, EU acquis communautaire, the EU institutions and the Court of Justice, legal extent of relations between EU and member states.
Private insurance law: Notion of insurance, classification of insurance contracts in different aspects, importance and functions of insurance, sources of insurance law, obligatory insurance and obligation of to contract, qualifications and elements of insurance contract, insurer, insurant and insurance holder, fee of insurance, risk, benefit and interest, insurance documents, duties of parties under an insurance contract, types of insurance contract, compensation insurances, termination of insurance contract, jurisdiction matters in disputes born from insurance contracts, insurance institutions, insurance companies, insurance agents topics will be covered during this course.
Labor Law is a course taught in two different semesters, and includes individual labor law, and some parts of collective labor law and union law in its context. The course deals with the subjects of criminal procedure law such as; safety measures, application conditions of safety measures, compensation for safety measures, investigation, prosecution, conciliation and seizure, ordinary and extraordinary legal remedies and expenses of prosecution.
Following topics will be covered during this course: enforcement of bonds, encashment and sharing, evacuation of property, enforcement with verdict, cautionary levy, law of bankrupt, composition order, restructuring via conciliation, enforcement crimes.
