Set up a booth at the courthouse working with judges
Students, who successfully completed the ‘Family Courts Law Clinic’ course, offered for the first time in the Aegean Region by the Faculty of Law at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), received their certificates. IUE law students, who had the opportunity to meet with judges, review case files, work collaboratively, benefit from their knowledge, and observe trials during the course, informed citizens about how to proceed in family court disputes by setting up a booth at the courthouse. The students, who gained significant professional and social benefits, improved their professional network.
CERTIFICATE FROM THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE
The course offered by the IUE Faculty of Law was implemented as part of the joint project titled ‘Improving the Effectiveness of Family Courts: Better Protection of the Rights of Family Members’ conducted in cooperation with the Turkish Justice Academy, the European Union, and the Council of Europe. Students, who successfully completed the course, received certificates issued by the Council of Europe in their names.
MET WITH WOMEN AND CHILDREN
Emphasizing that the course contributed to students in many ways, Prof. Dr. Sevilay Uzunallı, Dean of IUE Faculty of Law said, “Students met with representatives of NGOs working in the field of women's rights, relevant centers of the Izmir Bar Association, public institutions, and through these representatives, with victimized women and children. They directed these individuals to the appropriate channels where they could receive the necessary legal assistance. The young people also gained the theoretical legal knowledge they needed before participating in the judicial activities of family courts at our faculty.
They received detailed information from expert professors on family law, legal mechanisms for combating violence against women, and the principles and procedures of family court adjudication. All these enabled students to successfully complete the course. I would like to thank the Ministry of Justice, the Presidency of the Turkish Justice Academy, the Council of Europe, the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Judicial Commission, the Izmir Bar Association, and judges for their great support in the conduct of the course.”
