The Eighth Criminal Law Days Took Place

The 8th edition of the Criminal Law Days symposium series, organized annually by the Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Law, was held this year under the theme “Paul Johann Anselm Ritter von Feuerbach: A Cornerstone in the Construction of Modern Criminal Law.”

Participants of the symposium included Prof. Dr. Sevilay Uzunallı, Dean of the IUE Faculty of Law; Prof. Dr. Veli Özer Özbek, Head of the Department of Public Law; Dr. Arzu Aşçı, Faculty Member at the IUE Faculty of Law; Prof. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf and Dr. Baran Kızılırmak from the Faculty of Law at Julius Maximilian University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ozan Ercan Taşkın from Anadolu University Faculty of Law; Dr. Mehmet Cemil Ozansü and Asst. Prof. Dr. Serdar Talas from Istanbul University Faculty of Law; Asst. Prof. Dr. Gökhan Ölmez from Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Faculty of Law; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Emine Kabak Yüce and Research Assistant İlker Tepe from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Law.

Delivering the opening speech, Prof. Dr. Sevilay Uzunallı expressed her deep admiration for Feuerbach, the founder of modern criminal law, and stated: “Feuerbach purifies law from impurity and builds it upon the foundations of reason, systematics, and freedom. His principle ‘no punishment without law’ has truly found its place in our Constitution, and today we understand even better how important this is. I believe this symposium gives us an opportunity to reflect once again.”

Held in two sessions, the symposium concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Dr. Veli Özer Özbek and Prof. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf.
