‘Mock trial’ brought an award

Oğuzhan Yıldırım, İnan Bakır and Süleyman Gürkan Emre, students of Faculty of Law, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), won the third prize in the 'Prof. Dr. Yaşar Karayalçın Moot Court Competition held by the European Law Students Association (ELSA) Ankara Branch. In the competition in which 18 teams from all over Turkey took part, IUE students, who wrote a petition for a case involving international trade and arbitration and made a defense presentation brought the award to Izmir. İnan Bakır, a member of the team, was selected as the best speaker in the competition and was entitled to perform an internship at the Istanbul Arbitration Center for one month. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar and Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Sevilay Uzunallı presented a plaque to the students who returned from the competition with an award.

FACE TO FACE TRIAL ENVIRONMENT

Stating that they were proud to receive an award in one of Turkey's most important student competitions in the field of law, 3^rd year law students Yıldırım, Bakır and Emre said, “The competition takes place in a very serious format, where a face-to-face trial environment is provided. As a team, we both wrote a petition for the filing of a lawsuit involving international trade and arbitration issues and undertook the attorneyship of the defense party in the said case. While doing these, the jury, which includes experienced lawyers in our country, evaluated us. All teams participating in the competition acted with great seriousness and tried to express themselves in the best possible way. The award we received will motivate us and give us strength for future works.”

INDICATOR OF THE QUALITY OF OUR EDUCATION

Prof. Dr. Sevilay Uzunallı, Dean of IUE Faculty of Law, congratulated the students and she said, “As a faculty, our biggest goal is to bring in lawyers who can approach the issues from different perspectives, who have effective skills in expressing themselves as well as qualified knowledge. While doing all this, we encourage students to participate in competitions where they can improve themselves and make a difference with their knowledge. The award received by our students Oğuzhan Yıldırım, İnan Bakır and Süleyman Gürkan Emre not only made us happy but also revealed the quality of the education we provide as a faculty.
